Suggestions in Indian context
Dudeja Manisha and Gupta Munish
Education is essentially, a process rather than a product
as it is mostly taken to be. It teaches us to learn, learn things to develop in
a creative manner, teaches us to learn to be economical in effort. True education
is not knowledge of facts, but of values. True education leads us to the reality
of life, peace, nature and survival of human race. Globalization affects education
in a multidimensional manner, with globalization of capital and labour, it is of
utmost importance that the education system in India, especially the higher education
be updated and modified in accordance to the global environment. The recent trends
in higher education system in India include private institutions, distance education
providers, self financing courses in public institutions, foreign education providers
and non university sectors. The higher education system in India is suffering from
basic problems like old curriculum, commercialization, failure to attain global
standards and low employability. The paper relates the growth of higher education
in India to the changing funding pattern and suggests ways to ensure that higher
