schools and society
Garg Juhi* and Anand Sakshita
The present case study intends to find out the ratio
at which the school complies the ‘Interest Based Learning’ (IBL) for their students
in choosing the stream of their interest and preference; impact of compliance of
interest based learning on an individual; impact of compliance of interest based
learning on the school as an agency of knowledge and career growth and; impact of
compliance of interest based learning on the society as a beneficiary.
The objectives are attainted by collecting the data from 160 students of class XI
and XII from Science and Commerce streams. A total sample of 80 students who had
chosen/registered commerce stream and 80 students who had chosen/registered science
stream were taken. Thurstone Interest Schedule scale was administered to measure
the above.
The case identified the ratio at which the school complies the ‘Interest Based Learning’
for their students in choosing the stream of their interest and preference which
was 3:1 for science stream and 5:1 in commerce stream. The study also revealed the
impact of compliance of Interest based learning on the school as an agency of knowledge
and career growth. It was noted that school gives freedom to the students in making
choices regarding stream selection. It was found that if the individual student
is in loss, school automatically will be a losing end and if the two primary units
of the society are suffering, the society on the whole would not gain anything.
