Measurement of Technical Efficiency of Indian Microfinance
Institutions
Mor Surender
The present paper measured the technical efficiency of
55 MFIs of India using the stochastic production frontier approach which incorporates
a model for technical inefficiency effects including administrative expenses, financial
expenses, borrower per loan officer, female loan officers, cost per borrower and
operating expenses pertaining to the year 2014-15. The study revealed that the mean
technical efficiency of MFIs turned out to be 59 per cent which implicates that
microfinance institutions can increase their output (gross loans) by 41 per cent
without increasing the quantum of inputs. The findings further reflect wide variations
in the individual technical efficiency scores of sampled microfinance firms which
range from 16 per cent to 99 per cent across the sample. The role of female loan
officers has been found insignificant despite the fact that large chunk of borrowers
(97 per cent) are females in Indian microfinance sector.
The study recommends that the technical efficiency level of the Indian microfinance
sector can be effectively enhanced by increasing the magnitude of assets, number
of active borrowers and the number of borrowers per loan officer. The results emphasized
that a prudent check on the personnel expenses, financial expenses, operating expenses
and cost per borrower would be very handy in reducing the inefficiency of MFIs operating
in India. The study endorses the policy of expanding the active clientele (both
borrowers and depositors) besides, imposing checks on undesirable expenses for improving
performance of microfinance sector of India.

Corporate Entrepreneurship and Firm Performance
Nguyen Thi Xuan Trang
This is a review paper to find out the relationship between
corporate entrepreneurship and firm performance. It is realized that entrepreneurship
orientation with three dimensions including innovation, risk taking and proactiveness
affected firm performance positively. This positive connection was confirmed in
enterprises with different sizes (small, medium and large) and in various countries
such as the United States, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia and China. Additionally,
the moderating effects of government policy, economic condition and environmental
dynamism on the link between corporate entrepreneurship and firm performance were
also proved for specific pairs of proxies representing corporate entrepreneurship
and firm performance.
This paper calls for more future researches on other aspects of entrepreneurship
orientation like autonomy and competitive aggressiveness on firm performance. Furthermore,
the moderation of organizational factors on this relationship as the research orientation
of Lumpkin and Dess7 should also be noticed in the subsequent researches.
